RACE AND IMMIGRATION - CSCRE LECTURE SERIES

Anjali Nerlekar, Assistant Professor, Race and immigration in the context of the Caribbean.

Theme of the Lecture Series:
Given the shifts in the global political economy over the last three decades - including increasing mobility for capital and descreasing mobility for labor, the collapse of national and local economies, stagnant wages, job insecurity, and losses in political and cultural sovereignty - immigration has become an increasingly important site for investigating the intensification of nativism, xenophobia, and gendered racism. This discussion series explores the interlocking systems of oppression made apparent by mass migrations, the criminalization of undocumented workers, militarism, and the expansion of the prison industrial complex. The series also seeks to address immigrants' resistance, resilience and social justice work in light of these new global challenges.
